IN WHICH I ENJOY A BODICE-RIPPER — THANKS TO A DAY OF CARBS.
I love the beautiful message of Thanksgiving, and not just because for a change I’m eating — and not dating — a turkey … or because I let myself gorge on a carb heaven of mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pecan pie.
For me, Thanksgiving’s not a singular day, but one which I celebrate for the next 364 days of the year. Because gratitude doesn’t need to be an isolated act in a moment prior to pigging out, where we join hands and suddenly feel thankful: gratitude is a state of being, an essential ingredient of a life filled with positivity, fulfillment, love and yes, joy.
No matter what your situation right now or the circumstances in your life, watch the evening news and you can find ten things — probably many more — to feel grateful about in your life. I’m absolutely bowled over by the blessings in mine, and not only do I maintain a general vibration of gratitude throughout my day, but I make a point to address it specifically at night.
As soon as my head hits the pillow, I may be tempted to rehash the day, or plan the next one, or worry, stress or ruminate. But I don’t allow any of that to take hold, because I have developed a productive and positive habit: no matter what’s going on in my life, I count my blessings.
With each one I think of, I don’t just register it mentally, but feel the sensation of gratitude in my heart chakra. It’s in the middle of our chest, below our collarbone. Try it now: think of something or someone you feel grateful for — and you’ll locate it. Then consider how love and gratitude live in the same place, our heart.
I set out to list ten, but I don’t often get there because I drift off before; in a state of grace and bliss then, I fall asleep. That sets me up, then, for a next day in which there will be more blessings to count.
In life, we get what we focus our attention on, what we give our energy to. Whether positive or negative, what we want or what we don’t want — the choice is ours: whatever we give our thoughts and feelings to will grow. We can stress out and dwell on what we don’t have and create more of that situation. Or we can make the choice to focus on what we do have, feel gratitude for it and not only keep, but expand that abundance.
I, Mrs. Hot, am grateful for my peace, safety, freedom, health, friends, family, romance, and my beautiful home in my beloved city, to name a few on my long, long list of blessings.
But just to keep it real, I’m thankful for today’s stuffing and the kind of stuffing which comes my way the rest of the year.
After all, in Life à la Hot, a hot meal of male is a never-ending feast … just one I wouldn’t invite any Pilgrims to.
