Makeup is an important part of the GAS — Glamour, Attractiveness and Sexiness — that fuels us in our Life à la Hot. Cosmetics enhance us, letting us tinker with the hand nature dealt us, playing up our strengths while downplaying our weaknesses.
Everybody has at least one good feature, and maybe more. Gorgeous eyes and shapeless mouth? Go big on the eyes, with a neutral mouth. Great lips and only so-so eyes? Emphasize that pucker with vibrant, look-at-me lipstick and go easy on the eyes. For tips — like creating cheekbones, banishing a winter pallor or vanishing a less than gorgeous nose — YouTube is a great resource for makeup ideas.
Here’s one of my favorite tips: To avoid the dreaded lipstick on your teeth, insert your index finger deep into your mouth, and purse your lips around it as you slowly pull it out. You’ll see that extra pesky color on your finger, not on your teeth like our embarrassing moms. If a man happens to be watching your practical but blatantly suggestive gesture, he just might be a bonus who tags along after.
Another resource is the retail beauty counter. They’ll make you over for nothing, of course, though you might have to steel yourself from a hard sell — and you’ll learn some tips while getting a new look. I like to visit my favorite at Bergdorf Goodman when I need to replenish something. If I’m going to buy a lipstick anyway, I’ll get my face done, as well, and possibly buy something else. And if I just happen to have a special event or date that night, well, who’s the wiser?
Wearing makeup is part of my daily routine; I do it for myself, first, but there’s no doubt of the vastly improved response it gets from guys, and you never know when you’re facing your next conquest.
Neither the time, nor the energy? At the very least, a slash of red lipstick: what’s more glamorous and sexy than that? My choice for that is Pirate Red by Chanel.
Because in the battle of the sexes, I never go in without my war paint.
